PROGRAMME PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

I. Purposes
This program is to introduce to the students in secondary schools some basic mathematical concepts, to continue the development of numeracy, and to help the students to acquire and apply the skills.

This program, at all levels, aims at providing more experience with numbers, introducing a general sense of the pattern and power of mathematics both as tool and as a part of our cultural heritage. It also aims at preparing students to understand everyday application outside the classroom and providing a basis for further work and studies.

II. Objectives

A. At all level

1. To develop students' ability in self-study.
2. To continue the development of numeracy begun in the primary school -- this includes much of the number work, and ability to cope with approximations, percentages, rates and ratios, and simple mensuration;
3. To train students to think both deductively & inductively.
4. To train students to work systematically -- by requesting their presentation written step by step.
5. To train students' discipline by requesting their homework cleans and tidy.
6. To prepare students to understand everyday application outside the classroom -- for example, by teaching the fundamentals of statistics and probability;
7. To provide a basis for further work in Science and Mathematics

B. Junior Forms

1. To cultivate students' interest in Mathematics;
2. To consolidate their basic arithmetic technique;

C. Senior Forms

1. To give more emphasis to the nature and application of mathematics;
2. To achieve a better public examination result;
3. To complete the foundations required by those wishing to study mathematics further.
